I wanted to create something completely different to what already exists ; in the offer as well as in the branding. The uniqueness of this brand lies in the fact that they only curate magical, fantasy novels for Harry Potter or His Dark Materials fans.
This market exists and there are no products that targets them specifically (except licensed merch).
The goal of this made-up company is to only ship highly curated books that are magical, other-worldly and amazing for every book worm who can't ever have enough of fantasy stories!
To really stand out in the market, the design had to feel magical and soothing. It quickly became obvious that dark colors that still felt warm was the solution, as well as using gold to remind the customer of antique bound books.
There is a subtle balance of old and new in every aspect of the branding.
The Spell-Binding Chest was thought as a subscription box, which means it had to be conceptualized as a recurring product, changing every month. So while keeping the overall look and feel, it still needs to be different every time. I chose to pick a new color and new renaissance painting for each new box.
